Rach Tram Beach

Rach Tram Beach is one of the working beaches of the island and not too popular - yet the lush jungles make it a picturesque sight!

Rach Tram Beach or Bãi Rạch Tràm in Vietnamese, is located in the northern regions of Phu Quoc Island. Backed up by the mountainous Phu Quoc National Park covered by the dense foliage of tropical jungles, Rach Tram is a picturesque sight.

The beach is named after Rach Tram fishing village, which is only 800 meters wide, but stretches along the shore for around 2500 meters. The people are friendly and open for a chat. If you speak either Khmer or Vietnamese, that is. You should avoid any topics related to the last war between Vietnam and the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia however. This is an extremely sensitive topic on Phu Quoc Island, where the people suffered the most. Apart from Cambodia itself of course.

Some of the fishermen might be interested in taking you out to experience a fishing trip, or into the national park along Rach Tram stream. While the first option may provide a tasty dinner for the lucky ones, the second choice might provide an opportunity to spot rare wildlife.

Like the nearby Rach Vem Beach Rach Tram Beach is a working beach with a fishing village and almost completely undisturbed by the increasing tourism on the island and only reachable by a meandering dirt road. And like all the other fishing villages in Vietnam, Rach Tram is sheltered by a cape from the sea that can get pretty rough in winter. To the North, it's Cape Trâu Nằm and to the South the gruff Cape Hàm Rồng that fends off destructive storms.

Fishing-related debris is found on the beach, so this area is not really the best place for swimming and hanging around. However, some of the abandoned hulls make nice motifs for artistic photography. You might also spot the families if local fishermen, preparing the catch for selling it on the market, or drying shrimps in the slight breeze and the strong sunlight that is constantly hammering down from the sky.
