Vung Bau Beach

Vung Bau Beach is part of Phu Quoc's 40 km of sandy beaches and up to now a largely undeveloped, tropical paradise.

Vung Bau Beach or in Vietnamese Bãi Vũng Bầu is a beautiful sandy beach on the west coast of Phu Quoc Island. It stretches from Cape Móng Tay (Fingernail Cape) to the North down to Cape Ông Quới south of it. Further south you find the shores of Cua Can and Ong Lang, while north of Vung Bau Beach there is Dai Beach, formerly the most beautiful stretch of sand on Phu Quoc.

The sandy bay is backed by dense and lush tropical forests. Calm azure water, light, powdery sand not a living soul in sight. That's what the adventurous traveler's dreams are made of, right?

You can reach Vung Bau Beach via the red dirt road from Cua Can and the fishing village Le Bat. The road follows the beach and you can stop and make camp as soon you feel that you hit the right place. Further to the North, you can find two resorts tucked away in the greens and a sea food restaurant.

Along the way there is (supposedly) a dive shop where you can book a boat tour to the offshore islands, go snorkeling or even scuba diving at Móng Tay Island. The southern section of the beach is mostly abandoned. You see a few picturesque rock formations next to Cape Ông Quới and collectors will find nice tropical shells and coral fragments washed ashore. The sand is fine and nearly white. We also encountered a few balls of transparent jelly and later research revealed they are the remains of cannonball jellyfish that got mostly eaten by predators.

Mũi Móng Tay is a scenic landmark for taking a set of travel pictures, as well as a popular location for dive tours. Vung Bau Beach is of course not completely free of trash, but somehow the currents prevent the bay of getting littered from the seaside. The water is nice and lovely, but bring some food and water, because currently there is no shopping opportunity around this area.
