Animal Abuse

Poor little monkey at Mui Ne Ocean Resort
If you travel in Asia, prepare to find yourself in situations where animals get treated badly. This often does not happen out of mischief, but rather because the animal keepers don't know better.

This poor little monkey I encountered at Mui Ne Ocean Resort & Spa in Mui Ne / Phan Thiet.
I understand that regular people may lack compassion or a deeper understanding of how to treat an animal, but presenting it like that at a 3-star resort requires a special kind of stupidity.

Unfortunately it is exactly this special kind of stupidity that is so common in Vietnam. I don't say that Austrians in general do have a higher level of awareness. It's just the fact that in Western Europe, people speak up immediately. Vietnamese generally don't speak up, that's why so many people get away with treating animals, like this poor monkey in his littered cage, so badly.

Let's hope that people in Vietnam succeed in raising awareness to these issues in the future.
