Real gelato, individually crafted from hand-picked ingredients
For most of us who were not born in the area, Saigon is the city of eternal summer. Seriously, the temperature rarely drops below 25°C and the sun is burning down like a freaking supernova. So something was wrong all these years living here, something was missing.
Summer without proper frozen treats is no summer at all! Sure, you may go to all these ice cream shops that sell the fancy imported stuff that makes many of them massively overpriced. The other point if you are used to Italian gelato rather than heavy ice cream, all these brands are just a poor substitute for the real thing.
And then came Ralf and the eternal summer got more joyful!
Seriously, Ralf's Artisan Gelato can compete with the best gelaterias in Vienna, and we have some pretty famous ones there. He makes the gelato himself in the laboratory behind the ice cream parlour and in case you are curious, there is a window where you can see him at work.
When I enter the parlour, I feel like a little boy again, ready to pick a scoop of my favourite sort. Should it be raspberry? Or pistachio? Yellow lemon? Amarena? Darn, the choice is hard. Fortunately the price is very reasonable and I can get a sundae with whipped cream and more than one scoop. Whoa!
If gelato is something you miss in Saigon, just go to this wonderful place and get some.
